General Updates

Lemar Marshall, outside linebacker, will stay with the Redskins. He was re-signed February 17th after producing a great season. Along with Marshall, running back John Simon will be returning after spending 2004 on the injured reserve list.

The Redskins also gave up quite a few players. Most major in my opinion was dropping Vonnie Holiday. He’s an extremely good player, but expensive as well. Letting go of him will leave some salary cap space. Jermaine Haley was also released along with Vaughn Parker.

Brian Mitchell Retiring and Returning

Brian Mitchell, after a 14-year legendary career in the NFL, will be going into retirement. Mitchell, 37, began his career with the Washington Redskins in 1990. After a 10 year span in Washington, he moved to the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons and the New York Giants in 2003.

Mitchell, specializing mainly in punt and kickoff return, was an extremely versatile player, being able to move to running back, wide receiver, and even quarterback. He actually began his career as a quarterback for Southwestern Louisiana where he threw for over 5,000 yards and ran for over 3,000.

Mitchell will sign a one-day contract with the Redskins to be able to retire from the franchise.

Some of his records include:

• Second all-time in all-purpose yards with 23,330
• Kickoff Return Yards: 14,014
• Punt Return Yards: 4,999
• A member of the 1991 Super Bowl championship Redskins team
